Childish or Childlike?

Acrylic Paint on Masonite, Glass

15” x 21”

For this piece, I drew inspiration from a dynamic photograph of my friend’s younger sister. The exaggeration in her posture and facial expression immediately resonated with my own childlike nature; I was drawn to the joy and amusement captured in the moment. What intrigued me most was how the image could shift emotionally depending on its context; with changes in background and composition, she could appear happy, frightened, or even upset. The use of glass introduces both beauty and danger, symbolizing the fragility and unpredictability of youth. Fragmentation adds a sense of chaos, transforming a playful moment into something more complex and open to interpretation.
