“Deathbed Vision”
Acrylic Paint, micron pen, wood, on mason board
24” x 24”
This piece is a fully functional window that serves as a personal lens into my childhood memories: moments with my grandfather in Panama, my brother riding a bull, and our family frolicking on the farm. In 2022, my grandfather suffered a heart attack while on his farm, and during the peak of my high school senior year, the uncertainty of that moment inspired me to create this work. Through the window, I sought to preserve and celebrate the warmth, joy, and fragility of these memories, turning a functional object into a deeply personal reflection of family and home.
Windows open…
and close
The personal challenge I faced in this piece was creating a fully functional window that could both open and close. Having worked a seasonal job for a contractor that same year, I felt more adventurous about building the frame, but incorporating moving parts presented its own set of challenges. This project allowed me to combine practical construction skills with artistic design, pushing me to problem-solve while maintaining both form and function.
