“What a word means to me”
For this collection, I was inspired by the playfulness and power of a single word, and by how individual interpretation can shape each person’s understanding. I selected some of my favorite words and brought them to life visually, creating illustrations that explore meaning, emotion, and the unique ways language can be experienced.
This piece was inspired by the Panamanian slang word chisme, meaning gossip. This work channels that energy, conveying the humor, drama, and lively storytelling of Panamanian culture.
“Chisme”
For this piece, I got a little messy! spilling rice all over a wooden floor to spell out “grainy.” It’s a playful experiment with texture, everyday materials, and wordplay.
“Grainy”
In this piece, I took the word inflated literally, turning it into a balloon-like form. It’s a playful take on language, mixing typography and sculpture to explore how words can take on physical presence and personality.
“Inflated”
For this piece, I turned the word wavy into a dance of floppy, wiggling figures, like those wacky inflatable guys at car dealerships.
“Wavy”
What could possibly be more open than the word “OPEN” itself?
